If you choose to leave your dog behind, find a good, dependable pet sitter or quality kennel. There are pros and cons to both of these options. At a kennel, trained professionals will care for your dog but your pet may be stressed about being in a strange new location. With a pet sitter, you basically open your home to someone so they can care for your dog.

Whichever option you choose, provide detailed instructions on what kind of food your dog eats and what level of interaction you expect your dog to have.

When my family has the luxury of taking a vacation, I get one of my sisters to stay at our house while we’re gone. This is great because I know my dogs will be well taken care of.
